Music is the universal force that brings us all together. It enlightens us and brings us closer to our inner thoughts. With there being different music genres like R&B, country, pop, and rock, a certain feeling comes with each. Indie rock is a subgroup of rock music, and is, in my opinion, the most relaxing and exhilarating of all the indie music genres. Indie music takes you into your very own cubicle that is absorbed in fresh sounds and clear thoughts. One band in particular that has captured my earbuds would be Local Natives. After being discovered in the late 90′s, Local Natives has been a very popular indie band with a wide fan-base. Their music is soft, amazing, and just pure perfection.
Often times the ”hipster-like” music genre gets underrated. Many bands, like Local Natives, remain unknown and unheard by many music lovers. Indie music though is all around us, and can be heard on commercials, movies, and sometimes on the radio. One of Local Natives most well-known songs is “Wide Eyes”from their album “Gorilla Manor”. “Wide eyes” is what I like to describe as epic and magical because of the beautiful drum solo and their perfect harmony. The song goes into depth of life’s meaning and also the band members’ views on their careers. Like many indie artists, “Wide Eyes” has crazy drums and a soft guitar in the back. Other great songs by Local Natives are “Sun Hands”, “Warning Sign”, “Who knows who cares”, and “Camera Talk”.
The unique factor of Local Natives that separates them from most indie rock bands is their different sound. The majority of the bands songs have beautiful tunes, and their harmony is literally the most beautiful melodic exchanges. As a true fan of Local Natives, I have all of their albums, and am currently saving up to buy their latest album “Breakers”. The reason why I’m so drawn to Local Natives is because of the strong meaning and beauty of their music. Often times when tuning into popular radio stations, I hear lot’s of songs that are meaningless and corrupt too many young minds. I think indie rock music is good for teenagers to listen to because it gives them a purposeful meaning and allows them to evaluate many things about their lives. Local Natives along with other indie bands are sculpting the future with their hipster vibes and God-given talent. So, how about you grab a nice coffee from Starbucks, and blast a little bit of Local Natives to fulfill your ear’s desires.
