Oppa Gangnam Style! Yes, I’m sure you’ve heard the infamous “Gangnam Style” by PSY, and you think you’re aware of what K -Pop is. But I don’t think so. K -Pop, or Korean Pop music, is becoming very popular all over the world. Many people have become true dedicated fans(much like myself) to the unique music genre. South Korea is where the music was born, and thrived into greatness. Sm Entertainment and JYP Entertainment are the founders of many successful Kpop groups today There are many popular groups, much more popular than PSY, that have had lots of success in the K -Pop world. The top five artists and bands in South Korea would be Shinee, Super Junior, Girls Generation, 2NE1, and Big Bang.
In Super Junior the members are: Leeteuk, Kyuhyun, Ryeowook, Shindong, Eunhyuk, Sungmin, Donghae, Kangin, Siwon, Yesung, and Heechul. In Girls Generation the members are: Taeyeon, Jessica, Yoona, Yuri, Tiffany, SooYoung, Seohyun, Hyoyeon, and Sunny. 2NE1, who has also reached great fame in America, is a four member girl group consisting of Cl, Minzy, Dara, and Park Bom. Lastly, Big Bang is a five member boy band that has achieved global recognition just as 2ne1
Popular songs from these groups would be Super Junior’s “Bonamana”, Girls Generation’s “The Boys”, Shinee’s “Lucifer”, 2NE1′s “I am the Best”, and Big Bang’s “Fantastic Baby”. Of course, there are many great groups in K-Pop that have a wide-spread fan base like Infinite and BAP, two rookie boy-bands. Every K-Pop star has great skill in what they do, and work very hard to earn their status. It’s not the easiest to become such a success in Korean Pop Music, so it really is an honor for the stars to gain a lot of love and support. So then, I’m sure you’re probably wondering how I got into K-Pop in the first place. Well, I like to give reference to a little thing called Youtube. Super Junior was the very first group I saw, and remains to this day my favorite! The amazing fashion sense and awesome confidence is definitely factor that draws in many fans to Kpop Culture. So, whenever you’re feeling bored with nothing to do, how about you crank up some “Sexy, Free, and Single” by Super Junior? Your ears will thank you.
