Patriot Hall was the place to be last Thursday, September 12th as Sandy Creek ushered in its annual talent show. The night consisted of memorable performances that showed off the various talents from our fellow Patriots. There were some unforgettable moments and breathtaking highlights.

Shala Head won first place for Best Female solo, performing “A Change Is Gonna Come.” She brought emotion and passion to the stage, and the judges and audience alike recognized her talent. Being that it is only her freshman year, we will all be awaiting great things from her in the future. Second place for Best Female solo went to Chasten McCrary  for her rendition of “Stay” by Rihanna. She was dressed to impress, sporting a fashionable black and white outfit with a red bow tie.

Tochi Awachi sang an original mashup of popular songs that she merged together into one cohesive piece entitled “Paper Planes/ Melody.” All the songs flowed smoothly together, and audience members enjoyed recognizing hip-hop and pop songs in an acoustic form. We can hope to see more original pieces in years to come.

Breaking the chain of singers, Tiffany Bills worked the stage with a dance routine to an old rock and roll styled song, “The Basement.” Her energy filled Patriot Hall and won her first place for Best Dance of the Night.

William Allen won first place in the category Best Male Solo. He sang one of Drake’s latest songs, “Hold On We’re Going Home.”  He got the audience involved and encouraged them to sing along during the final chorus. There was much laughter as second place winner, Tyler Spezzano, spontaneously revealed a neon pink “Shake It for Me” tanktop from beneath his jacket during his “Country Girl Shake it for Me” performance. Females in the audience were amused and joined in, shaking it for him in their seats.

This year the talent show saw something new with band instrumentals. James Hlas took first place with his solo violin performance. Right behind him in second place was a band, made up of four Sandy Creek students, called All Day Long. Flashing lights lit up the room as they rocked the stage.

A group named “The Major Minors” put together a jaw dropping acapella medley. All seniors, Courtney Justice, Angela Johnson, Jerrell Melton, Jamarcus Mathis, Teya Wynn, and Marlon Moody, executed their last talent show performance at The Creek. They have set the bar for those following in their footsteps

The judges loved Brett Heard, awarding him with Best Overall Performance for singing “At This Moment.” They also loved Gabrielle Hand, awarding her with Entertainer of the Year for singing “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.” She is the first person ever to win this award because this is the first year it has been introduced. Gabrielle pumped up the entire audience and ended her performance inviting up people to the stage. She wanted to dance with somebody, and she got to, and it paid off with the judges.

Overall this years talent show truly was an event not to be missed. If you did miss it, make sure to show up next year. There is so much talent within the Patriot student body, and the Talent show is the perfect way to show it off. If you chose to perform or attend as an audience member to support your friends, the Sandy Creek Talent show is the place to be.
