Many high school students become extremely overwhelmed towards the end of the school semester. When you throw in projects, quizzes, tests, and finals, the whole situation can take a toll on a person mentally and emotionally. Although the week of finals can be stressful all around, here are a few tips and tricks to help you take the final:

Preparation:

  • Gather exemption information together. We all have classes we don’t like, so make sure your grades are good enough in order to exempt.
  • Organization is key. Organize all notes and review packets for the exams you are taking. A good tip is to place all notes and packets in order. For example, if you have Math 1st period and History 2nd, place the review packets in that order.
  • Make sure to study and do any final exam review teachers give. Teachers love to give their end of the year packet containing all the material you learned that semester. DO THEM! Not only should you do the study guide, do them about a week in advance for ample study time.
  • If you have any uncertainties, be sure to talk to the teacher before hand. When doing a final exam review packet there are times when some answers are unclear. If so, ask the teacher. This also another reason to do all review work in advance.
  • Do not over stress. Relax, the exams are rarely as hard as anyone expects.
  • Get at least eight hours of sleep. This will allow you to have a clear mind and stay awake during your exam.
  • Make sure to eat breakfast! Working on an empty stomach will only add to the stress of taking the test.

Taking the Final:

  • Remember to breathe: Keep calm, as long as you have studied and gone over anything you don’t understand, you will be fine.
  • Read all questions carefully: Many exams include questions with keywords that many students overlook causing them to miss the question.
  • Manage your time wisely: Teachers give an ample amount of time to take exams, try not to spend too much time on just one question.
  • If unsure of a answer skip and come back towards the end; by doing this, you will be able to breeze through the questions you know and still have time at the end for the questions you are unsure of.
  • Use process of elimination. Most questions have answers that you can automatically eliminate getting you closer to the right answer.

With these tips for preparation and for taking the finals you should be set for the final exams. Good luck to all Sandy Creek High School students!
